The Strolling Stevedores From The Port Of Felixstowe

"The Strolling Stevedores" Everest Base Camp Trek

March 9th - March 27th 2016 for St Elizabeth Hospice (Suffolk)

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
Four years ago The Strolling Stevedores climbed Mt Kilimanjaro, their new challenge is Everest Base Camp. This year we have a new team, Trevor Cable, Ian Gow, Nick Goodrum, Nick Lord, Andrew McDonald, John Mundy & Gary Newson who are all Stevedores at the Port of Felixstowe.
On March 9th we will leave London and fly into Kathmandu before a short flight into Lukla, landing at Tenzing-Hillary airport (the world’s scariest airport). On March 12th we begin a 12 day trek to Everest Base Camp. The trek will be very demanding due to the cold weather and high altitude. Base camp is at 5364m above sea level and temperatures will be down to about -20° at night.
We will be raising funds for St Elizabeth Hospice in Ipswich. They are an independent charity which provides its services free of charge for care in Suffolk and South Norfolk. It costs £9.1 million a year to run the charity, the NHS gives a grant of about £2 million. The rest is raised through fundraising and donations.
The trip is totally self funded and all of the costs for flights, hotel, trek, vaccinations etc will be paid for by the team. All of the money raised both here and from our sponsor forms will go directly to the Hospice, please remember every penny really does count.
                        Thank you, The Strolling Stevedores.
