Ultra large container ship CSCL INDIAN OCEAN hard aground, Elbe


Ultra large container ship CSCL INDIAN OCEAN ran aground on Elbe river near Grunendeich while en route to Hamburg from Felixtowe, at around 2130 UTC Feb 3, having 11.6 meter draft. Grounding was caused assumedly either by blackout or navigational error. Reportedly, traffic is hampered. Situation is described as “critical”, there are at least 5 tugs on the scene, waiting for high water. No information on damages, but no leak reported. On photos grounded mammoth CSCL INDIAN OCEAN. Yesterday evening the traveling under the Chinese flag containership "CSCL INDIAN OCEAN" (length 399.60 m, width 59.00 m, GT: 186,000) went 116 due to the lower Elbe in the amount of ton. The water police took over the investigation.

The container ship "CSCL INDIAN OCEAN" was with a draft of about 11 meters down the road from Felixstowe to Hamburg. Against 22:10 reported the ship's command of the Brunsbüttel Elbe Traffic failure of the steering gear. The "CSCL INDIAN OCEAN" got out of hand and was in the amount of 116 ton due to fixed.
