New Jobs Announced at Leading Container Freight Terminal
Permanent Employment as Port Invests in the Future
UK – The London Container Terminal (LCT) situated at Tilbury and currently the third largest such freight facility in the UK with over half a million boxes passing through each year, has announced the creation of 75 new permanent jobs this year as the Forth Port’s owned facility gears up investment. The Port of Tilbury is a significant employer with a workforce of over 1,100, many of whom live in the local area and the company says it is investing millions of pounds across the port in the areas of infra-structure, equipment and people.
The 75 new jobs at London's major port will include straddle carrier drivers to handle the new equipment, mentioned in our story last year, who currently work as contractors at the port but who will now have permanent employment at LCT with all the benefits of this job security. The investment will also see a major training programme get underway to enhance the skills of both straddle carriers and crane drivers, both for the new positions and the terminal’s existing staff, through the port’s dedicated onsite training academy which will lead on the training programmes for LCT. Commenting on the announcement, Perry Glading, Chief Operating Officer of Forth Ports said:
