It’s longer than the Shard is tall and everyone is likely to buy some of the goods it carries.
The world’s largest ship, the CSCL Globe, will be visiting the Port of Felixstowe early next year.
Its visit to the Suffolk dock is its first sojourn to Europe and the only place it will call at in the UK.
The cargo ship, which is 400 metres long, will carry a variety of consumer goods including food, drink, clothing, electrical goods and furniture from Asia to Europe.
The majority of these goods will be destined to the high street while British-made products will be shipped out on the CSCL Globe and exported to the Far East.

Paul Davey, head of corporate affairs at Hutchison Ports (UK) Limited, which owns the Port of Felixstowe, said: “The arrival of this ship represents a first for the UK.
“It is important economically, the direct call recognises the scale of the UK economy, and economies-of-scale provide the most efficient way to get UK exports to important Asian markets.”

He added that because of the huge variety of goods to be carried on the ship it is likely everyone in the country will buy something which has been carried on the vessel.



Largest Container Ship In The World 19100 TEU CSCL GLOBE Begins Its Voyage

China Shipping (Group) Company held the inaugural ceremony for CSCL GLOBE in Tianjin to celebrate the first voyage of the largest container ship (19100TEU) on Earth. Ministry of Transport deputy Minister Weng Mengyong, Tianjin vice Mayor Sun Wenkui, relevant leaders from Ministry of Transport and SASAC, heads of Tianjin Transport Committee, Customs, Commodity Inspection and classification society and China Shipping’s clients representatives attended the ceremony and visited on board. CS Group chairman Xu Lirong, vice president Huang Xiaowen and CSCL director and president Zhao Hongzhou were present. Chairman Xu Lirong and Tianjin Port Group chairman Zhang Lili made speeches on the ceremony. Before that, Tianjin Mayor Huang Xingguo met with deputy Minister Weng Mengyong and chairman Xu Lirong.

Vessel upsizing is not only the new trend of international container lines industry under the circumstance of the “New Normal” economic and shipping market, but also China Shipping’s important measure to implement the national strategic, optimize the fleet structure and increase the international competitiveness.
The new delivered CSCL GLOBE is the first one of the five 19100ETU vessels that China Shipping ordered from Hyundai Shipyard. With a length of 400 meters, width of 60 meters, the vessel is bigger than four standard football fields. Being called the “A380 in Shipping Industry”, CSCL GLOBE significantly increases the brand influence of China Shipping.

Meanwhile, green development is also an important trend of international shipping industry. China Shipping has focused on building green competitiveness, deepening energy conservation and emission reduction, transforming and eliminating outdated facilities, involving in low carbon construction and implementing sustainable development. The new delivered CSCL GLOBE embodies the outstanding features in terms of fuel consumption. It saves 20% of fuel compared to the normal 10000 TEU vessels. The construction and operation of the 19100TEU series vessels reflects China Shipping’s low carbon and environmental friendly operation principle.
Being located at the intersection of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei city agglomeration and Bohai economic circle, Tianjin Port is the biggest comprehensive port and trade foreign trade port in northern China. It ranks among the top global ports with 13.5 million TEU throughputs in 2013. China Shipping and Tianjin Port share a long history of cooperation in terms of container shipping, bulk cargo shipping, terminal, agency and sea-railway combined transportation.
The first voyage of CSCL GLOBE in Tianjin remarks the 19100 TEU series vessels’ formal operation in Far East-Europe route.
