Is this the container terminal revolution?

GRID Logisitics plans to transform the conventional container terminal as we know it by integrating ship-train-truck between ports and inland destinations.

GRID Logistics' vision sees the Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach re-imagined into a holistic structure which hauls containers off ships simultaneously and onto two trains that each go to separate destinations.
One will travel underground utilizing disused sewage networks and the other will take a conventional route, leaving trucks to travel the last mile from the feeder terminal to their required destinations.
This initiative aims to reduce fuel costs, congestion and pollution levels while contributing to GRID Logisitics imperative that automation should improve productivity and efficiency, thereby creating a true triple-bottom-line for people, planet and profit.
GRID Logistics will partner with industry stakeholders and strategic port-host countries around the world at their first major event: CleanTech LA
Keep your finger on the pulse for the follow-up exclusive Q&A with GRID Logistics CEO, Dave Alba next week.

  2. this system would never really work stacking to containers like that. how would you get to the bottom can without removing all the top cans first? plus if this happened I would be out of a job as a longshoremen. I agree to get the outside scab truckers out of the ports by not at the cost of losing my high paying job. take your screwed up system and shove it. your automation isn't working at the port and neither will this. human man power still can move the cargo faster and better

F#$K Yeah! Let's get rid of the cranes and trucks, too and just get a bunch of rope and pulleys to hire more longshoremen to do everything without any machinery or improvements at all. And F#%K these ships with their diesel engines. Hire real men to high-paying jobs to row the boats from port to port. This worked great for the Romans. Union power!
