It has been stated that the reason that Hamburg Sud is leaving Tilbury for London Gateway was due to the fact that they could not handle the new vessels due to their size. Well here is one of these new ships alongside at Tilbury on Saturday the 21st. These pictures were sent by a Docker who fears for his job at Tilbury. Any feedback by Tilbury or Gateway would be most welcome

- Anonymous22 March 2014 15:48Well done to everyone involved with the Cap San Lorenzo. I just hope it makes HSud think twice about moving their Business to Gateway.ReplyDelete
The Government need their Arses kicked for causing all this stress and unrest by allowing another Port to share in the already limited Business coming to this Country..Did they honestly think that it would be healthy for the Industry to give permission, AND partially fund, by endless Grants of our own Tax money, a massive port no more than 9 Miles from Tilbury Docks.!? I know a lot of Good Guys whose skills over the years have kept Tilbury afloat through Recession. They have all been stepped on as if they mean nothing.. I'm sorry but i cant believe they have never once thought about the possible consequences of allowing this to even be talked about! The Government need to stand up and give us answers. There is no sudden growth in our Industry to warrant another Port!.....Rant Over!
1100 moves nearly done ,started 1800 ,Friday ,sails about 1 pm
- Anonymous22 March 2014 16:11Going back to what was said earlier about Gateway working through bad weather when other Ports wont.ReplyDelete
Personally, i think that's impossible. I live very close to Gateway and regularly over the years have walked/Biked around the surrounding areas of the port. Even now they have Created the Wildlife Masterpiece, i walk the Dogs every day and a lot of the time it can be extremely foggy and windy. The area is very open with mostly marsh land surrounding it.Taking into consideration the height of their Cranes, i would imagine they will have a job seeing that statement through.
I managed 55 moves in one hour with 3 carriers.well done boys
ReplyDeleteIt was a pleasure
DeleteYou lot made each other look good well done everyone ;-)
DeleteYour awesome, I wanna be like you when I grow up.
DeleteYes we managed to get across all 19 of her bays without any problems. Well we have proved ourselves once again at Tilbury.
ReplyDeleteWe have 4 more of Hamburg Suds large vessels calling in the next few weeks. We will complete those too just to prove to the shipping world we can service the larger ships too.
Good performance lads - you should all be very proud. I am a Felixstowe Port worker who does not want to see any of you lads loose your jobs. Keep it up the good work done by humans, they will always have the edge over a robot / computer.
ReplyDeleteWell there you go, it just goes to show that even when the chips are down us Tilbury dock workers even tho small in number, can outshine the so called Rolls Royce of the container terminal world, well done us
ReplyDeleteStay strong lads from a Bristol Docker.
ReplyDeletewell done lads we all muckered in proper skilled workforce ,no pretend crane drivers on this port.
ReplyDeleteWell done Tilbury brothers stay strong from a Southampton docker
ReplyDeleteThe dock workers make a dock successful. If we stick together we could be even stronger.
ReplyDeleteIn all these bad times we are suffering in Tilbury, it's gratifying to see other brothers from other ports can see what gateway are all about. Getting grants, New equipment,
ReplyDeletepromises they can't keep and as proven this weekend, speculation about other ports
proven SO wrong. So how about the government giving some help to the ports that have served this country for decades... How about it, thank u brothers
How about Docklands Tilbury took all the work from in the past???
DeleteTruth is that progress can not be stopped. Country needs new investment, better infrastructure and competition in the market. Otherwise it will stay behind and will not be competitive enough on European market.
Some of the Tilbury dockers already are at London Gatdway because they have seen current situation comming. They have accepted different condition and get on with thier lives. You didnt want to do it and therefore a lot of unexperienced people got the job. Now its too late for you. Sorry, you had your chance.
Tupe tupe ,
DeleteGotta be a ex Tilbury worker /
DeleteLots of experienced operators where turned down and lots more couldn't take such a pay cut because of their commitments.
DeleteInteresting, I fully understand people justifying their position but you can't ignore the draft issue. That ship would not visit if it was up on it's draft, period. And I cannot see anyone investing in a dredge operation to make 14m+ through to Tilbury.
ReplyDeleteBut as DP World said via the media could the government reconsider the placement of the new bridge and move it further East than it's proposed place in East Tilbury that would be a far greater cost than 14 million cos the bridge would have to be twice the size.
DeleteSo for the foreseeable future the infrastructure s bad.
sad but true!!! ! Felixstowe dock basin was a fun place to work , but the ships got bigger than 6 wide and 5 high on deck ,
ReplyDeleteSuperb comments from dockers all over the country supporting our colleagues at Tilbury.
ReplyDeleteWell done tilbury good job done AGAIN. .lets see if we get any thanks from management Monday morning lol..dont think so....do you? ?
DeleteIf they're anything like our management at felixstowe then no they will not give you any thanks or credit, it will stay within there office walls. And well done Tilbury boys on that performance great effort brothers keep it up.
DeleteYou can guarantee there will be no thanks from management this morning. They have already shown us what they think of us by the way we have been treated over the last few months
Deleteyou have helped their bonus, sure our hard work is necessary for our docks success, unfortunately a by product of that is the people who have slid their way to a management position end up getting the financial bonus, we get told we have to sacrifice our wages to become smarter,
ReplyDeleteAs stated above no thanks from management,so proves a point that they are so far out the loop of how to run a successful business properly.treat you're workers with respect and not the contempt that a certain few at tilbury have.its about time the pretend bully management owened up to the fact that some off them are hiding behind others below them that really do there job.take the money that's on offer and go ,thats what you want the real workers to do,set a example own up to the fact you are lost in you're position.rant over.
